Appliance Details

I'll try to keep this short with as much value as possible.

When preparing for your 14 day, get a list of the appliances from your SR. It will show you color, level names, model number, and Ryan code. Don't wait till your 14 day to have to make a quick decision. You'll be cooking a lot so it is an important decision. If you don't cook, and just use the oven to store your shoes (like my wife when she was single), just get the cheapest option. Nothing to see here.

Appliance options change, but this was the current list when we went through it (Appliance Packages 2012).  This is only the standalone ranges, since the separate option was quite a bit more expensive and we ruled it out.

Option /  Package / Range (Gas) / Dishwasher / Microwave / Price
  • Featured 1 Black 4FA JGB250DETBB GDF510PGDBB JVM1540DMBB $325
  • Featured 2 Black 4FB JGBP28DEMBB GDF510PGDBB JVM1730DPBB $450
  • Featured 3 Black 4GC JGBP33DETBB GDF510PGDBB JVM1950DRBB $995
  • Featured 4 Stainless 4GD JGBP33SETSS GDF510PSDSS JVM1950SRSS $1495
  • Deluxe 1 Black 4GE JGB296DETBB GDF520PGDBB JVM1950DRBB $1295
  • Deluxe 2 Stainless 4GF JGB296SETSS GDF520PSDSS JVM1950SRSS $1695
  • Premier 2 Stainless 4GH PGB910SETSS GDT550HSDSS PVM1970SRSS $2495
  • Premier 4 Stainless 4GJ PGB930SETSS PDWT180VSS PVM2170SRSS $3395
  • Premier 6 Stainless 4GL PGB930SETSS PDWT380VSS PSA1201RSS $3995

To summarize some features:

  • Featured 1, 2, 3, and Deluxe 1 are Black.
  • Feature 4, Deluxe 2, and Premier 2, 4, 6 are Stainless.
  • Premier are GE Profile. All others are just "GE".
  • Featured are regular ovens, Deluxe and Premier are Convection.
  • Premier 2 has the highest rated dishwasher from Consumer Reports (74), with hidden controls.
  • Premier 4 and 6 are a double oven for electric, oven with "baking drawer" (weird) for Gas.
Prices are pretty comparable and occasional lower through Ryan. If you're debating the "buy the cheapest model and replace with nicer models because it will cost less", I didn't see that during my research, unless you started looking at separate stove and ovens. Plus you'll have to deal with removing the old appliances, installing the new, and disposing or selling of the brand new "old" appliances. Not worth it to us.

To make our selection, I checked Consumer Reports, Home Depot and Lowe's and the features. We wanted Gas, Stainless steel, and maybe a double oven. They didn't have a Gas double oven. The baking drawer I don't count. It isn't a proper second oven. You could do a non-standard if you wanted, but no mix and matching.

We decided on the Premier 2 with Gas Range and Microwave. Good oven and microwave reviews, and the best dishwasher review. Doesn't have the useless baking drawer and costs less than the other Premier options.
